Neuropsychological Assessments and Supportive Therapy

Neuropsychologists evaluate cognitive function in cases of memory changes (such as emerging dementia), or following a known issue such as brain injury, stroke or other neurological or psychiatric illness. We offer assessments and supportive therapy to help individuals adjust to their cognitive changes.

Neuropsychological Assessment

A Neuropsychological Assessment involves a careful, thorough evaluation of an individual's thinking skills. This includes a formal, objective assessment of memory, attention, processing speed and other skills such as executive or higher-thinking abilities (problem solving, reasoning).

Neuropsychological Assessment may be requested for diagnostic purposes, to clarify cognitive strengths and weaknesses, or to comment on an individual's capacity to make decisions.

Additionally, a cognitive assessment can be undertaken in relation to ADHD, to clarify attention and processing levels in the context of a client's overall intellectual functioning and as part of a comprehensive workup for ADHD.

Types of Assessment

We offer assessment for adults (aged 16 or over) for the following purposes:

  • Memory concerns related to suspected dementia or mild cognitive impairment
  • Assessment following Traumatic Brain Injury, Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons Disease, Cardiac disease/surgery, Epilepsy
  • Cognitive concerns related to other neurological or psychiatric illness
  • Cognitive changes and concerns in menopause
  • Cognitive concerns related to Long-Covid
  • Evaluation related to ADHD
  • IQ assessment for NDIS applications
  • Capacity / Decision Making Assessment
  • At this stage, we do not accept other Medico-Legal referrals

Supportive Therapy

Many individuals experiencing cognitive changes (such as memory problems) also experience a range of psychological symptoms including depression and anxiety. Addressing these concerns and providing supportive therapy to help adapt to any cognitive change can be of great benefit both for the individual and their families.

Individual or family counselling sessions are available to support cognitive changes.
